Scent of the Day - Wednesday - 09/27/06
It's been hot here again, so I think I will wear PdN Eau d'Ete. What are you wearing today?
This is not perfume but it might as well be, as it is my latest object of lust and drooling. Why must I own everything purple? But is it just not so vibrant and lovely? Let's see $18.95 x 8, plus tax. Oh and I need the center piece bowl. Oh and the appetizer plates, I could use for dessert plates. Oh and then somewhere to store them!!!

Thundra - Ichnusa - Acqua e Zucchero - Profumum Durante Roma - Review
Part II – Continued from yesterday.
Thundra - Not much more I can say about this one that the notes don't say already. Although I will rearrange the order -patchouli, leaves, a touch of mint and musk. An earthy patchouli with the dry crispness of added leaves and the slightest touch of mint. There is almost a smokiness here in the drydown that will be appreciated. The musk smooths the whole composition to a sueded finish. Unisex.
Thundra Notes:
Leaves, mint, patchouli, white musk
Ichnusa - Ichnusa starts out very green almost balsamy. Although the notes say grass, the mind says pine. No real fig here to my nose. Masculine, strong, with a strong soapy drydown. My friend says, Irish Spring? Some who like strong greens and don't mind that soapy finish may really like this one. Unisex.
Ichnusa Notes:
Myrtle, fig-tree wood, cut grass
Acqua e Zucchero - Ok, my first review of this fragrance back in February has now led me to believe I had a mislabled bottle. I was really wondering why a fragrance with sugar in the name didn't smell like sugar. No Sugar, no berries, no vanilla. I am now thinking that was actually Acqua di Sale. But that is not important now, this scent is sugar, not to worry. Pink Sugar, and lots of it. So if you like Aquolina Pink Sugar you will like this too. Spun sugar, sweet berries and a yummy vanilla drydown.
Acqua e Zucchero Notes:
Orange blossom, wild berries, vanilla
All available from LuckyScent

Santalum - Patchouly - Acqua di Sale - Antico Caruso - Profumum Durante Roma - Review
I was planning on reviewing these scents one by one, but I found I don't have that much to say about each one, now that my favorite has been done, so I thought I'd condense them into two parts. Part II to follow tomorrow.
Santalum - My Second favorite from the line. A nice sandalwood, more woody than sweet, but not overly so. Nicely blended. It is simple and clean, this would be great on either sex.
Santalum Notes:
Sandalwood, myrrh, cinnamon
Patchouly - Warm, earthy, slightly chocolate. I find it very interesting that I like Patchouli scents, but really dislike it as an overpowering base note which is found in so, so many of the new releases. It is really getting tiresome. But as the main note, with the addition of amber, this one really mellows out and the light touch of incense in the base is just right. A Patchouli for those who never thought they could.
Patchouly Notes:
Patchouli, amber, sandalwood, incense
Acqua di Sale - A created ozone type note comes across quite strong in the beginning of this one. It soon settles to more of a sweet, beachy, skin scent. Not salty, more sweet. Funny, because my friend thought the opposite; more salty and more marine, less ozone. I'm not getting much, if any, cedar here. You gotta love beachy/ozone to love this. If you do, it is quite pleasant.
Acqua di Sale Notes:
Aroma of salt on the skin, myrtle, cedarwood, marine algae
Antico Caruso - This one opens with a lime note that tricks the nose into thinking this is a man's cologne. Quickly the citrus is gone and a nice sweet almond with floral-like tones emerges. The sweetness burns away and it deepens into pure almond as time goes by. Very nice for you almond lovers out there. More presence than Mazzolari's Alessandro.
Antico Caruso Notes:
Citrus, almond, sandalwood
Coming tomorrow -
Thundra, Ichnusa and a re-review of Acqua e Zucchero
All available from LuckyScent

Fiori d'Ambra - Profumum Durante Roma - Review
Bad News!! I have some really bad news regarding this scent - it is too delicious to resist and you might as well call up or click the link below and just buy it. Why wait for a sample and have the agony of having to wait again to get the fragrance? If you love sweet amber, just do it. It knocked my socks right off. Completely.
The only notes they are giving out offically are: amber gris & opium. But there is some creamy vanilla in there and I'm pretty sure I detect a certain amount of sueded leather. Very delicious!
Available LuckyScent 100ml for $195

Baghari - Robert Piguet - Review
Baghari was initially introduced in 1950, and has now been re-released as the third in the Piguet line, joining Bandit and Fracas. When my friend Dawn and I tried this at Neiman's on Sunday, after a full day of sniffing, we both thought it was very fruity. Dawn said she thought it was like Bond No 9 Little Italy and I was thinking it was more lemony/bergamot. It smelled fruity and sparkling. I bought it. When I got home and tried it later, it seemed much less fruity, more overall "perfumey". And as I have said before, perfumey can be a good thing. In fact the last time I remember reviewing a perfume that was perfumey - it was Le Dix. Both observations very coincidental, because guess what? The contemporary perfumer has worked with Bond No 9, and the original perfumer on Le Dix.
It starts out a sparkling bergamot note that as you sniff seems to recede within the powdery depths. The powdery aspect is less sweet than some; very reminiscent of Lorenzo Villoresi Teint de Neige. In fact after checking, Teint de Neige and Baghari share at least five common notes: Rose, jasmine, vanilla, musk, amber. I also feel the Balenciaga Le Dix connection. I never caught even a glimpse of the violet, but another friend said she got iris and lots of strong violets in the middle. To me the rose and other florals are well wrapped in the powdery veil. The aldehydes are mild but do lend to the sparkling opening. The drydown is a soft vanilla amber and musk base. Long lasting but not as much sillage as you might expect. Definitely a quiet, refined, soft oriental. Very lovely, I'm quite happy with my purchase and I expect I will reach for it often this fall.
Notes: violets, neroli, jasmine, Bulgarian rose, rose centifolia, iris, bergamot, aldehydes, vetiver, amber, vanilla and musk.
You can read more about Baghari from the website here: Baghari
Baghari is available:
Le Bon Marché and Printemps (Paris)
Harvey Nichols (United Kingdom and Ireland)
Bergdorf Goodman (New York)
Neiman Marcus stores (U.S.)

L'or Rouge de Torrente - Torrente Parfums - Review
Another fragrance I picked up on my trip to Antwerp is this one, L'Or Rouge. I first spied it at Magna Plaza in Amsterdam. I immediately saw it there as I entered the Shu Uemura store. The bright red foil packaging and red glass are quite startling. Being a fan of L'Or de Torrente I was so surprised to see this one, I had heard nothing about it, didn't know it existed! I tried it there in Amsterdam as well as new Lalique one I'd not heard of. Both were pleasant enough. I decided to wait and not purchase, but in the meantime I kept thinking about that adorable red bottle. When I saw it again in Antwerp I caved.
I am having a very hard time finding any information on this one. And although I see it readily available on eBay, I have a suspicion it was not released in the USA.
Not earth shattering, not coffee. Trying to find something to compare it to, I find it most similar to Eclat D'Arpege. A soft amber base and wisteria is my guess, along with red berries. Not as good as L'Or but the bottle is as charming.

Fresh Carnation - DSH - Review
Sometimes you stumble over something wonderful on your quest for something else. Ever since testing a sample of JAR Golconda, it has been on my brain. When I heard DSH Perfumes had a dupe available, I went to her site to order a sample. While there I decided I might as well try Fresh Carnation too.
Well I have to say the dupe, called Fleuriste although nice, did not have the vivacious spiciness of Golconda. However, I have become quite smitten with Fresh Carnation. Enough so I have gone back and ordered the roll-on oil. After wearing it for a while, I am begining to think I also need the Body Wash, Lotion, Cream, EDP, and something called Water-Based Body Spray. Help! In other words, I think I am in LOVE. Again. Wearing this to bed is relaxing and cooling, as if you put your head in the florist case and took a deep sniff.
I love carrying the roll-on in my purse for those times when my scent of the day has left the building. It is an instant bright spot in my day.
Description from the DSH site: "lively and cool carnation scent with a less spicy, greener feel. (Unisex)"
Notes:
Top notes: Bergamot, Tulip
Middle notes: Carnation, Purple Lilac, Sweet Pea
Base notes: Brazilian Vet
DSH Perfumes

Iris Nobile EDP - Acqua di Parma - Review
Acqua di Parma has created a new chypre blend verison of Iris Nobile, being released in EDP form.
Iris Nobile being one of my favorite fragrances, I was anxious to try the new version, I guess we are always wanting something closer to perfection.
So today I'm testing one on each arm to report the differences - They both start out rather similar, but the EDP is a bit richer. Within minutes the new EDP begins to evolve into something musky and indolic while the EDT side stays liner. Those who like a nice indolic bouqet will be pleased as the mid notes last for quite awhile before settling back down into the mutual Iris Nobile base. Thus in the end the two fragrances meet again. However the EDP is longer lasting. For me, I'll stick with my EDT, I love the light freshness of it.
Here is the release info from Acqua di Parma: "Iris Nobile is a refined fragrance for women, which blends the discreet elegance of flowery notes with a sophisticated chypre accord. The most sophisticated and stylish scent within classic perfumery.
This new interpretaion of iris noble opens with pure crystal-clear notes of bergamot, tangerine and star anise to evolve into a flowery yet intense heart thanks to the iris and ylang-ylang accord. Warm notes of patchouli and oak musk enhance this refined bouquet, while ambrette crystals and vanilla infusion give the fragrance its soft and sensual scent.
A vibrant and modern interpretation of a classic chypre, Iris Nobile eau de parfum is a celebration of a discreet, yet charismatic feminity. "
As far as I know the only place to get this so far is Senteurs d'Ailleurs in Brussels.

LuckyScent and Aroma M to Donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation
When I got the news from LuckyScent this morning, I thought wow, I love this scent, it's my favorite from the Aroma M line and what a great idea! And a perfect way for us perfume lovers to help support this wonderful foundation. Geisha Pink is the perfect choice, it is very pink and girly. It is a very sweet sugared plum fragrance, with better than average sillage and lasting ability for a roll-on oil. It is yummy when you are craving something sweet, as a pick-me-up or just for fun. This would also make a great gift for younger girls and teens.
Notes: sugared plum, orange, vanilla
Think Pink for the Cure:
LuckyScent.com and Aroma M will be donating 15% of all sales of the best-selling Geisha Pink Roll-on by Aroma M during the month of October to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which is dedicated to education and research on breast cancer causes, treatment and the search for a cure.
“We’re thrilled to be supporting a cause that impacts so many women. Most of our customers are women, and we want to support a cause that unfortunately effects so many women’s lives- their own, their friends, their colleagues or family,” said Franco Wright, co-founder of LuckyScent.com.
A special commemorative card will be issued with every purchase.
