Exclusive!! Insolence - Guerlain's newest fragrance scheduled for release in the USA in August. It comes in a lovely round bottom rolley-polley glass falcon with pinkish-violet juice. According to a Guerlain spokesperson, rather than having top-middle-base notes, the fragrance was crafted to have a spiral effect. Violets, iris and berries are the notes I can pick out. I would not say this Guerlain has the Guerlaide feel to it, but lovers of Apres L'Ondee will find it familiar. Like a heartier version with iris and berry. The sillage and lasting ability are quite good.
I have to say I think Guerlain missed the mark here, the juice should have been more violet. Violet to reflect the violets and iris in the composition. The color violet would also help bridge the age gap between teenagers and older adults. I'm afraid this might be dismissed as another "young" fragrance otherwise. In as much as so many celebrity scents as of late have been pink. However I'm sure the ads will try to appeal to both with Hilary Swank being chosen as the spokesperson/model.
I'm totally in love with this unique new fragrance and have been wearing it all weekend. It is the kind of scent that keeps you glued to your wrist and makes you want to keep applying more, even when you don't need to. I think Guerlain has a future hit here. Finally a USA release that has elegance, staying power and potential, worthy of a great house such as Guerlain.
Special thanks to my friend who gave me the opportunity to have an advanced preview.

Wow. I would love to try this. I don't know that I will like it, though. Berry seems so saccharine. Sounds like you like it, though so it's worth a shot.
I'm only guessing on the berry. It's slightly fruity and that's my guess. Someone told me that someone else commented that it's like Apres L'Ondee and Lipstick Rose. I think that's a good description too.
I made a note, the bottle is rather unusual.
I have to give it a try.
I do like Apres L'Ondee, but Lipstick Rose is not bottle worthy for me.

Oooh, this is very exciting, thank you so much for the review!! Can't wait to try it.
Interesting. I like the idea of the bottle design, though the collector in me fears it'd wobble to and fro like a ship adrift at sea on my dresser, and knock some innocent bottle.
I would have totally dismissed this one unless I read your review. Guerlain have dissapointed me tremendously in their recent releases. This one sounds promising!
I will be watching out for this when it shows up in the hood...
Violet and iris have potential but berry scares me off. But if it's anywhere like my beloved Lipstick Rose, I'm in. Thanks for the review!
This is a completely new fragrance. It is set to launch in August. Are you sure the other one was called Insolence?
Well, whatever it is, if it's got violet I will have to try it. It sounds intriguing - I hope the "berry" is not overly sweet.
so exciting!! does your friend work at guerlain??
I just read on an online perfume forum that there's another Guerlain scent with a similar name, L'Insolente, but it's a cologne.
Hi Ina, yes I have since found that too, the L'Insolente. This is definitely all brand new and called Insolence. Not sure why they would choose a name so close to another.
Nice review.
Here's link with three more pics of this new frangrance. The color of the juice looks a lot darker here especially in the first pic and the design of the bottle looks a bit more rounded & rose-like to me. Maybe they changed it a bit?

Hi Millie, the link you posted is not working but if it is for the Factice on French Ebay, I have seen it. Lighting in my picture as well as in the picture of the Factice and how it appears on your screen may vary. The juice is a pinkish violet. It looks more pink to me than violet. But I'm told the box is violet and when on display the juice will look more violet when placed in front of the box.
Maybe this link works:

In any case I'm really excited about this new fragrance and I'm glad Hilary Swank is attached to it. I just love her. I also really like the design of the bottle.
I'm still on a fence about the name "Insolence" though. Maybe they could have thought of a better name for it, especially with another scent out there with a very similar name.
Hi to everyone,
The launch of L`insolente (perecious heart - travel retail) was only to protect the name, if you´re planning to launch something you shold protect the name early and to protect it you must launch the name (or something that sounds similar)imidiatly. Other brands doing this with names of lipstickcolors - there is also a guerlain lipstick KissKiss with the coulor "Insolence de Rouge".
Very interesting! Thank you!
I say briefly: Best! Useful information. Good job guys.

I found the fragrance to be quite like my great grandmother's perfume.
I have just been fortunate to have been given some as a gift! And thought I should look it up.
It is one of the most sensuous scents I have come across. More obviously floral than I usual have (Chanel No 5, Coco, Caleche and Private Collection)but it is divine.
Extremely seductive and womanly without being overpowering. A winner.
I recommend it to you. My nose is firmly glued to my wrist!!!hahaha
Thanks for the post, I love it too. And I just bought the body lotion, it's divine!
"I have to say I think Guerlain missed the mark here, the juice should have been more violet. Violet to reflect the violets and iris in the composition."
They must have had their reasons, like maybe that Lancôme had just brought out a violet based, poudery, violet liquid coloured Hypnôse for Christmas last year?
Thanks for the review where you elegantly refrained from any Hilary Swank bashing... very good. The perfume itself didn't hit me as exceptionnal, but the ad, the line-up and the tv spot are well done and quite bold.
very similar to SUN by Jil Sander
I love the scent. It's quickly becoming my favorite. It's soft very subtle. I kinda like the shape of the bottle. Unfortunately quite inconvenient for travelling.
