Dzongkha - L'Artisan - Review

Dzongkha is named for the incense burned in the Buddhist temples (the Dzongks) in the Eastern Himalayas. Created by Bertrand Duchaufour the nose of Timbuktu. Another dry incense that is very unappealing upon first spray. I dared not get too close to my hubby with his allergies as he was already reacting from a tiny bit on my hand from the vial. It was headache inducing even to me.

For reference I did not care for Timbuktu. The dryness of this one, the lack of sweetness, the lost floral notes, leaves one wondering why you want to smell like this. The opening is very off putting and though it does settle down, I think there comes a point where one has so many lovely fragrances that open beautifully, why suffer through a nasty opening waiting to reveal a wearable drydown? A drydown of unfathomable beauty maybe, but an average drydown? Life's too short.

One commenter on Lucky Scent's page compared the incense note to that of SMN Citta di Kyoto but said that it was "devoid of any floral complexity that would have made it a nice, if completely unoriginal, offering." I really couldn't agree more. If you are looking for a nice type of incense try the SMN Citta di Kyoto. You can read my review of that lovely fragrance by clicking on the name above.

I have no doubt that some of you will love this. If you loved Timbuktu, Padparadscha & L'Air du Desert Marocain or Guerlain Bois D' Armenie, this one could be for you.

Notes: Lichee, Cardamom, Peony, Iris, Tea Leaves, Incense

You may purchase from:
LuckyScent.

Dear V-

While I really do enjoy this one- much against my will- I find it nowhere near as gratifying as L'Air du Desert, which, on my skin [thankfully !], dries to a warm, enveloping beauty that invites others to come closer...

I know neither works well for you.

It's wonderful that there are plenty of others to impoverish us, isn't it ?

I'm trying to resist Tabarome Vintage...

Hi Chaya,
Yes, It is wonderful we are all so different. So many for us all to love! Funny how we can love the same things and yet differ on others. Enjoy! I'm sure it's lovely on you. :O)

Hi Vic,

Bottle Split? lol ....

When I was reading the description at LuckyScent and the word spiritual was used I was thinking along the lines of Passage D'Enfer which I like. That's what I was expecting with the Dzongkha and I was super surprised that it was not even close to what I was expecting.
Passage D'Enfer has a damp feel to it and Dzongkha was completely opposite.

Dzongkha isn't for me but that's a good thing because now I have some $$ to use for that lovely, sweet Amber. :)

Oh dear...I'm sorry this one didn't work for you! I loved it! One thing I noticed, though, was that different sites list different notes. For example, there's definitely leather in there, and it's not listed on any site but osMoz. I don't think there's any lichee...I think osMoz is the only site with the correct notes, and it makes a completely different perfume (and sets different expectations) than the notes on LuckyScent or LusciousCargo. :-(

Funny, though, I am wearing Citta di Kyoto today! YUM! I love them both...

Well I guess I came down a little hard on this one. But when I hear incense I get excited, and I was more dissapointed than anything. Plus as I said there seems to be a lot of the "wait till the drydown" going around these day. I merely posed the question, "Why?". :O)

Thanks Greeneyes, I didn't get any lychee either. I will check out the notes.
